After investigating the vessel, Isaac, Hammond, Daniels and Chen are attacked by nightmarish monsters known as necromorphs. They're surprised to find nobody responds to their extravagant entrance, and it doesn't take long to deduce why. The responding officers arrive at the mining ship but, due to a malfunction, crash their vessel into the Ishimura's docking bay. Isaac has additional skin in the game as his wife, Doctor Nicole Brennan, is stationed aboard the ship, working on a mysterious project. Receiving a distress beacon from the USG Ishimura, engineer Isaac Clarke (our lead protagonist), Senior Security Officer Zach Hammond, Computer Specialist Kendra Daniels, Corporal Johnston and Corporal Aiden Chen are sent to board the ship and discover the source of the distress call. However, this seemingly routine planet-cracking mission appears to have met a hitch, and that's where we come in. In Dead Space's dystopian far future, humanity has exhausted Earth's natural resources, creating ships like the Ishimura to harvest other planets for their resources. Our tale takes place in the year 2508 aboard the USG Ishimura an elite spaceship known as a " planet cracker" that has the ability to mine planets. If you want to find all of the logs and discover the Ishimura's darkest secrets for yourself, check out our Text and Audio Logs Guide for a breakdown of their locations. Thanx again. It's worth noting that a lot of Dead Space's story is explained via audio and text logs. So, if anyone else has these confusions, let's hope they find this posting, and it saves them worry and grief. In the great majority of games I've played, I would have been put back in just before the point I'd reached in that chapter, and indeed, one of the annoying things about the new format of DS3, is that because they removed the save stations, the game often put me back in a long way previous to where I'd exited, making for lots of repetious work! This aspect led to me thinking something had gone awry with the save game procedure in the first place. This is a classic example of my main bugbear with game companies, and EA in particular! All it needed was someone who properly understood the game to tell me that 1 Dead Space Awakened is the next chapter after 19, and that 2 despite not having completely finished chapter 19, the game decided that I'd done enough of it and so was starting me back in at the beginning of the next chapter, hence Awakened. Thanx oafaloaf, and all the previous correspondents.Īs I often find with computers, we tend to think of how complex they are and look for complex solutions, when often it's something quite simple. So, it occurs to me that maybe the game figures I've done enough in chapter 19 to count as finished!?! The reason I think this, is because in the Awakened folow on, it's given me all my resources, weapons and rig and the last suit I chose from DS3 main game! It seems to be the equivalent of New Game +, but when I've selected New Game + it tells me that I must complete one playthrough to access that?!?Īll very weird and confusing, but I've decided to just play Awakened and leave the actual end of DS3 for now, as I've got all the gear I need to stand a chance in Awakened.ĭon't know if you've got Awakened, or if any of this is useful to you, but it may prove useful to someone out there struggling with this overly complicated game! Now, I notice that in the chapter select section, Awakened is listed as chapter A1, immediately following chapter 19 of DS3. I have found that using the chapter select helps, though it will start you at the beginning of said chapter, so it can mean a lot of repetition! Also, it may be that part of my problem is having purchased 'Awakened', coz in my chapter select section, it seems chapter 19 is the final chapter of the main game, and it felt like it too as I got to the part with the boss monster with yellow eyes that you have to fire markers at, whilst restricted to a small disk that's constantly invaded by Nec's! That's where I kept dying, and after 5 or 6 restarts, I just got bored and frustrated so would quit, expecting to restart at the lead up to that fight, but instead it would restart me at the openong of Awakened. There is definitely something strange about their saving system. I've also tried System restore, still no solution. Disabling Origin in game, and finally, a clean reboot. Having contacted the elves at Origin's chat service, I've tried waiting for an update that never arrived or didn't work if it did. Thanks for your info Oafaloaf, it's handy to know that all that messing about isn't going to fix it.
